Conab estimates drop in rice stocks

The national and international scenario for rice was in opposite situations in the first half of 2018, according to a study by Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab). According to the agency, although there was a good world production, this was accompanied by an increase in demand, which led to higher prices.

In Brazil, grain production remained within the historical average. But the expectation of increase in the passage stock has led to a significant devaluation in local prices, since it increases the bargaining power of the industries towards the producers.

This trend, however, did not materialize due to significant surpluses in the trade balance, as of November 2017. Today, the projection is of reduced transit stock for the next harvest and more balance between supply and domestic demand.
