Brazil negotiates increase of meat exports with Egypt

Eumar Novacki, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA), presented a proposal to the Egyptian government to implement a pilot electronic certification program for the sale of Brazilian meat.

According to MAPA, the project was developed by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporters (ABIEC) and the University of São Paulo (USP). Egypt will be the first country to implement the electronic system to be taken to other beef importing countries of Brazil.

The secretary was with Egypt’s Minister of Food and Commerce Ali Meselhy and the head of the committee responsible for the analysis and authorization of food exports. The Egyptian government understood that the electronic certification program will allow the reduction of bureaucracy in meat export processes with consequent gains for the entire production chain.

Last year, the main products of Brazilian agriculture sold to the African country were meats (38.14%), products from the sugar-alcohol complex (29.98%) and cereals, flours and preparations (25.33%), generating a total of $ 2 billion in foreign exchange for Brazil.
