Government reduces import tax on insecticide used in soybean and corn planting

On Tuesday (25), the Executive Management Committee (Gecex) of the Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) approved the reduction of the import duty of 8% of insecticides formulated from the active ingredients bendiocarb, bifenthrin, chlorfenapyr, cyfluthrin, deltamethrin, etofenprox, fenitrothion, lambda-cyhalothrin, malathion, pyrimphos-methyl or propoxur.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture, pesticides with these active ingredients are widely used in the cultivation of soybeans and corn, and also in crops such as rice, peanuts, potatoes, sugarcane, onions, citrus, beans, sunflower, forage palm , grazing, cucumber, sorghum, tomato and wheat.

The reduction was requested as a matter of urgency by the ministry, due to the beginning of the harvest period, when there is greater demand for agricultural pesticides.

Also according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Brazilian consumption of the insecticides classified in said tariff code about 60% are imported, considering the average of the last six years.
