FAEP calls for continuity of the program that grants energy discount to producers

The Federation of Agriculture of Paraná (FAEP) sent a letter to governor Cida Borghetti and the president of Companhia Paranaense de Energia (Copel) Jonel Iurk, so that the program Rural Night Program has its continuity guaranteed for 2019.

According to the entity, at first the government had decided to cancel the program that grants a discount of 60% in the rate for rural consumption at night (between 9.30 and 06.00).

Copel Distribuição reported this week that the discount would no longer be granted as from January 1, 2019, this measure would bring difficulties mainly to the state poultry farmers, since the activity has an important input in electric energy, which may represent more than 20% of the activity costs.

In the document, the president of the FAEP, Ágide Meneguette, argues that the discount benefits 12 thousand producers from Paraná. “In addition to encouraging agricultural production, the program makes the electricity system more efficient as a whole, since the overall consumption is lower at the time the discount is applied,” he says.
