During the external commission on the agricultural indebtedness of the Chamber of Deputies, politicians were reunited with the Secretary for Agricultural Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Neri Geller. At the time, they addressed the current scenario of the rice production chain, which faces numerous challenges.
Political leaders asked the secretary to set up an inter-ministerial group to discuss proposals to tackle the rice crisis.
The coordinator of the external commission, Deputy Jerônimo Goergen (PP-RS), highlighted other measures that could recover the sector, such as the revision of the minimum price and the adoption of new mechanisms to return to income conditions and to reverse the commitment of producers with debts of costing and investment.
“Alone, auctions are not enough to recover prices. They, at most, stabilize. Now, we are going to articulate new measures that allow the resumption of the income condition of the producer, “he said. According to the parliamentarian, the Secretary for Agricultural Policy has assured that he will open the discussion on the minimum price of rice. “We are going to charge that the official minimum prices include in their calculation the cost of the indebtedness,” he said, according to a statement from Agência Câmara de Notícias.
