Performance of the agricultural sector should contribute to agribusiness growth

Desempenho do ramo agrícola deve contribuir para crescimento do agronegócio

Brazilian agribusiness is expected to grow by 7.2% in 2017. The analysis is made by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), which still calculates the results of last year based on the information collected until november / 17.

According to Cepea, the favorable performance of agribusiness will be driven by the increase in revenues from the agricultural sector, which is expected to grow by 9.3% in 2017. For the livestock industry, the estimate is a growth of 2.4%.

The good moment in agricultural production is related to the good productivity obtained by the farmers, who invested in technologies, besides the favorable climate.

Despite significant growth in volume, 2017 was marked by sharp declines in agribusiness products prices. Therefore, the income of the sector is still under pressure from this unfavorable price movement. In the comparison between January and November of 2017 with the same period of 2016, agribusiness prices presented a relative decrease of 10.8% in relation to those of the economy as a whole.
