Lego will manufacture plastic parts derived from sugarcane

Danish toy manufacturer Lego has announced that it will start producing some parts from polyethylene obtained from sugarcane, known as “green plastic”.

Initially, the proposal is to produce botanical elements, such as leaves, shrubs and trees, with the new material. The “green plastic”, the company informs, is flexible, durable and technically identical to conventional.

“In the Lego group, we want to make a positive impact on the world around us, and we are working hard to make the best products for children using sustainable materials,” said Tim Brooks, vice president of Environmental Responsibility at Lego Group when announcing the novelty last week.

According to the company, the pieces produced with the “green plastic” should reach the market later this year.
