Exports of forest products grew 17.8%

Brazilian exports of forest products (pulp, wood panels and paper) totaled US $ 901 million in January, up 17.8% year-on-year, according to the latest Brazilian Forest Industry (Ibá) report.

With this performance, the sector accounted for 14.6% of the values ​​exported by agribusiness companies in the first month of the year, and 5.3% of the total trade with the foreign market of all Brazilian companies. The balance of the trade balance grew 17.5%, reaching US $ 807 million.

China remained the main buyer of Brazilian pulp in January, accounting for 47.3% of exports. The total value of pulp sent to China increased 21.1% compared to the same month of 2017, reaching US $ 338 million. 

Following that, Europe increased by 16.2% the import of Brazilian pulp, reaching US $ 208 million. Latin America has remained ahead of the other regions of the world when it comes to the use of wood and paper panels. For the panels, the region accounted for more than half of all the volume exported by Brazil, which means US $ 12 million, up 9.1% over January 2017. In Latin America, Latin America grew 14.3% of exports, totaling US $ 112 million. In January, exports of wood panels increased 8.2%, reaching 92 thousand m³. The paper segment already showed growth of 1.7%, with a total shipment of 175 thousand tons.
