Agricultural participation in the total number of employees in the Country was 20% in 2017

Last year, agribusiness was responsible for the growth of the national GDP, with a significant increase in production, according to researchers at Esalq / USP’s Cepea Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics. In contrast to GDP growth, the number of people working in agribusiness decreased by 1.6% in 2017 compared to 2016, from 18.53 to 18.24 million people.

In the same comparison, the number of employed persons in Brazil as a whole was practically stable, closing the year with 90.6 million people. According to Cepea’s calculations, the share of agribusiness in the total employed in Brazil was 20.1% in 2017, against 20.5% in the previous year.

Considering the evaluation by segments, researchers from Cepea point out that the reduction of the employed in agribusiness was influenced only by the primary segment, which registered a 6% decrease in the contingent of workers. On the other hand, jobs in industrial and service links increased in 2017.
