Brazil may request quota of 800 thousand tons of sugar in the Mercosur-EU agreement

The ASR Group senior director, Igor Cordeiro, said on Wednesday (14), during the Sugarcane, Sugar and Ethanol 2018/19 Opening event organized by Santander and DATAGRO Consultoria, which Brazil is able to plead an export quota of up to 800 thousand tons of sugar in a possible free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur.

According to the executive, the current trade regime, with a tariff of 98 euros per tonne for the export of sugar to the EU “is impracticable” and that only an agreement could favor the improvement in the flow of trade from Brazil to the bloc.
