The agribusiness sector is preparing a plan with public policy proposals for the segment that will be presented to the presidential candidates, said the coordinator of the Agribusiness Center of FGV-EESP (GV Agro) and former Minister of Agriculture, Roberto Rodrigues, on Monday (19), during the “Act for Agriculture: Food, Income and Future,” an event held at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in São Paulo.
According to Rodrigues, the document is being developed and funded by the main entities of the sector and will offer suggestions for various topics, such as credit, logistics infrastructure, management, science and technology, among others. “We need a plan that right Brazil to be the guardian of the food security of the planet, and consequently the world champion of peace.”
The former minister stressed that the success of Brazilian agribusiness is not only something of the sector, but also encompasses all Brazilian society, the urban environment, considering the concept of productive chains that has ramifications for cities.
Rodrigues usually says that Brazil is very likely to assume the leading role in the world food production. “Institutions such as the OECD, the FAO and the USDA, for example, estimate that in ten years Brazil’s world food supply will grow by 40% so that global supply will increase by half, that is, by 20%, and ensuring quality food security and sustainability. “
For the former minister, Brazil has all the conditions for this: “We have tropical technology, we have land available and, above all, we have competent people in every link of the agribusiness productive chains. If we set the strategy already mentioned, we will undoubtedly be the world champions of food security and therefore the world champions of peace, since there will be no peace while there is hunger. “
