USA: USDA predicts soy area to exceed corn in 2018/19 cycle

The soybean area in the United States in the 2018/19 crop is expected to reach 36 million hectares, slightly lower than last season, according to the planting intention report released on Thursday (29) by the Department of Agriculture of the United States (USDA).

Regarding maize, the department estimates that the planted area should reach 35.6 million hectares, a small decrease compared to the previous cycle. According to the agency, if the projections are confirmed, the area planted with the oilseed must exceed, for the first time in 35 years, the planted with the cereal.

In addition, the area sown with wheat should reach 19.1 million hectares, an advance of 3% over the previous harvest.
