The Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) and the Northeast Development Superintendency (Sudene) are building a technical cooperation agreement for regional development, focusing on in the strategic animal feed reserve.
The partnership was the subject of a meeting on Wednesday (04) between the president of CNA, João Martins, and Superintendent of Sudene, Marcelo Almeida das Neves. The intention of the entities is to join forces to strengthen the productive system of the Northeast from initiatives such as the research of plants adapted to the semi-arid region.
“We are now leaving a period of six years of drought and with this partnership, we will be able to prepare our livestock for the next cycle, providing a new stage for the semi-arid region,” said CNA Vice President and President of the Federation of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Paraíba (FAEPA), Mário Borba, who participated in the meeting.
The partner should also contemplate actions aimed at the biological control of the carmine cochineal (pest that attacks the palms), for the mechanization of the forage palm harvest and the registration of herbicides for this crop. “With this work, we want to guarantee the food security of the Northeast herd, which will directly reflect the improvement of productivity, the condition of the herd and guarantee profit for the region’s rural producers,” said Sudene Superintendent Marcelo Almeida das Neves.
The meeting was also attended by the director general of the National Rural Apprenticeship Service (Senar), Daniel Carrara, the presidents of the Federations of Agriculture and Livestock of Bahia, Humberto Miranda, and Maranhão, Raimundo Coelho, the director of the CNA Institute (ICNA), Rodolfo Tavares, ICNA Executive Secretary André Sanches, CNA Technical Superintendent Bruno Lucchi and CNA Technical Advisor Joaci de Medeiros.
