The Director of Credit and Economic Studies, Wilson Vaz de Araújo, takes on Friday (6) the Secretariat of Agricultural Policy. After nearly two years, Secretary of Agriculture and former Agriculture Minister Neri Geller leaves the post to contest this year’s elections.
The new secretary was adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture in the Codefat (Deliberative Council of the Fund for Workers’ Assistance), the Deliberative Council of the Fundamental Constitutional Fund of the Midwest (Condel / FCO), the Board of Directors of Companhia de Armazéns e Silos of the State of Minas Gerais (Consad / Casemg) and is part of the Network of Directors of Agricultural Policy of the Southern Agricultural Council (Cas / Redpa).
Wilson Araújo considers the new Agricultural and Livestock Plan to be launched as early as June as an immediate management priority. “We have already surveyed the demands with representatives of rural producers, inputs, machinery and equipment, financial institutions, federal and state governments and the Parliamentary Front of Agriculture, to receive suggestions and criticism.”
“We already have a backbone, a consolidated agricultural policy, which has been improved since the 1960s, and the producer knows that the government will be present to support production credit and investments in productive infrastructure and marketing,” said the new secretary.
Wilson Vaz de Araújo, a native of Paraná, began his professional life in agricultural planning offices in his state, passing through Rio Grande do Sul, until he moved to the federal capital, when he elaborated a project to occupy the Cerrado in the entire Central Region -West. An employee of the National Supply Company (Conab) and assigned to the MPLS, in the last two decades he was responsible for the elaboration of the Ministry’s Agricultural and Livestock Plan.

Secretary Neri Geller had been in charge of the SPA since June 2016, when he took over for the second time. He was Secretary of Agricultural Policy in 2013 and the following year Minister of Agriculture. At the helm of the secretariat, for the first time in history, the entire rural insurance subsidy was paid in the 2017 annual budget, with no remnants to pay.
In his first visit to the Secretariat of Agricultural Policy, he undertook the creation of the Warehouse Construction Program (PCA) and the Agricultural Technological Innovation Program (Inovagro).
Neri Geller completes his balance sheet at the helm of the Secretariat with optimism and a sense of duty fulfilled. “We are pleased that our mission to support Brazilian agricultural production has been fulfilled. And the sector continues to play a fundamental role in the resumption of the economy and in the development of the country, “he concludes.
