GDP of agribusiness of SP falls by 3.8% in 2017

The agribusiness GDP of the state of São Paulo accumulated a fall of 3.8% in 2017, according to research conducted by Esalq / USP, Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics), with the support of Fiesp (Federation of State Industries from Sao Paulo). The decline was linked to falls of 4.1% for the agricultural sector and 2.3% for livestock. As for the agribusiness segments, the losses were of 4.6% for inputs and primary and 3.6% for services and 3.7% for the industry.

According to researchers from Cepea, the lower level of prices recorded along the São Paulo agribusiness chains justifies the negative performance of the sector’s income in 2017. Add to this the smaller volumes of important agricultural activities, such as sugarcane and coffee, and the low production of ethanol and orange juice. This combination of negative results weighed on the billing, leading to the contraction movement of the agribusiness GDP of the state.

Considering this dynamics, the agribusiness GDP of São Paulo was estimated at R $ 267.9 billion in 2017, 82% of this amount referring to the agricultural sector (R $ 219.4 billion) and 18% to the livestock sector (R $ 48.5 billion), all in real amounts for 2017.
