Pulp is already the fourth most exported product in Paraná

In six years, pulp exports by Paraná increased by 112 times – from US $ 4.9 million (2011) to US $ 553.8 million in 2017. In the first quarter of 2018, US $ 180.6 million according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services. Pulp, which ranked 81st among the products exported by Paraná in 2011, moved to seventh place in 2017 and in the first quarter of 2018 it rose to the fourth place, behind only soybeans, in natura chicken and bran Soy.

“Pulp exported automobiles in the quarter. As it is a product with multiple applications, not only for the manufacture of paper and packaging, but also diapers and other hygiene products, there is a very great potential for exports through Paraná “, says the director-president of the Paranaense Institute for Economic and Social Development ( Ipardes), Júlio Suzuki Júnior.

The port of Paranaguá, with a strong presence in the movement of grains and automobiles, has also established itself as a terminal for the export of pulp and paper. It is already the fifth port of the country in the movement of these products. China and Italy are the main destinations of pulp exported by Paraná. Together, the two countries account for 81% of shipments. Klabin’s new factory in Ortigueira, which started production two years ago, placed the pulp on the export map of Paraná.
