Rice harvest approaches 90% in RS

The soybean harvest in Rio Grande do Sul reached 89.1% of the total area sown, which is 1,071,377 million hectares. The information is from the survey done by the Sector Policy Section of the Rio Grande do Sul Institute of Rice (Irga). According to the institute,  the average productivity in the state’s crops is 7,899 kilos per hectare.

The West Frontier producing region remains the most advanced and with the highest productivity to date, with 305,623 ha (96.5%) of harvested area, yield of 8,262 kg / ha. Also noteworthy were the Coastal Plain, with 120,719 ha (92.3%) of harvested area, productivity of 6,939 kg / ha and Coastal Internal Plains, 128,072 ha (89.9%).

To agricultural engineer Ricardo Kroeff,  although the regional one is close to completing the cereal harvest, it could have been more advanced if the rainfall volumes had been lower during the planting window of the grain.

The fall of hail that hit the municipalities Eldorado do Sul, Guaíba, Nova Santa Rita, Tapes and Triunfo, in late February and early March, resulted in the loss of about nine thousand hectares.
