Producers want reduction in ICMS of rice marketed in RS

Rice producers in Rio Grande do Sul will request the State Government to reduce temporarily of the Tax on the Circulation of Merchandise and Services (ICMS) for the commercialization of barley rice among Brazilian states. 

The objective of the proposal is to reduce the percentages from 12% to 7% and from 7% to 4%, depending on the destination, for a period of 90 days at a time of harvest and rice on the market. “The South Half needs to give a message, it is not possible to ask for a tax reduction and see what other sectors are receiving. Dornelles warned that, according to Federarroz’s estimate, the cost of production should increase by at least 10%. Items like the defensive ones are already 15% larger. The chief economist of the Federation of Agriculture of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Farsul), Antônio da Luz, informed the participants of the event that the State today has a stock of 930.61 thousand tons, and only with the lower interstate ICMS rice Gaucho can reach other Brazilian markets, affecting the high prices of grain and also generating income for the state and municipalities through the gain of rice farmers.
