MV producers request reduction in ICMS for the pulses trade

Mato Grosso producers in the segment of pulses (group of 12 crops including beans, dried peas, chickpeas, among others) requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) the reduction of the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on grain marketing.

Currently, the amount of tax charged is 12%. The idea of producers is that the value be reduced to 4%. Of this percentage, 1% will be allocated to the Incentive Fund for Bean, Pulses and Special Grain Research.

According to the president of the Association of Bean, Wheat and Irrigation Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprofir) Alei Fernandes this is an old claim of producers, and the decree of the State Government proposes a reduction to 5%, but for only 90 days , which does not please the class at all. “Our state is the only one in the country that has such a high tax burden on these crops, we need public support so that we can continue to grow and produce on a larger scale,” he said.
