Gaucho Animal Protein Sector Claims Lines of Credit and Extension of ICMS Maturity

As a matter of urgency, gaucho entities in the animal protein production chain formalized documents with requests regarding the financial recovery of the sector after the national stoppage of the truck drivers. The requests will be delivered by the Secretary of Agriculture of Rio Grande do Sul, Odacir Klein, the Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi, and the State Governor, José Ivo Sartori, in a meeting scheduled for Friday. Applications need the support of the state government, the Union and the national financial system.

According to the executive secretary of the Union of Dairy Industry of RS (Sindilat), Darlan Palharini, within the scope of the State the proposal is that the ICMS maturities for the months of May, June and July be extended by 30 days or, in another case, that the government submit a tax installment payment plan. Palharini highlights the importance of the lawsuit for the sector, since delays in the payment of ICMS result in the loss of presumed credit. At the federal level, a request for a temporary PIS / COFINS compensation authorization is being submitted to the INSS. Finally, the sector represented by industries and producers asks for the extension of the financing coming due in the next 180 days or the presentation of a negotiation proposal. In addition to these lawsuits, the industries request the release of credit lines for working capital.

The decision to formulate the document was debated this morning (07), in Porto Alegre (RS), at a meeting of the Animal Protein Group, with the presence of entities related to the productive sector, government leaders and representatives of banking institutions. Sindilat was represented at the meeting by Palharini and the union’s president, Alexandre Guerra.

As a strategy to minimize the impacts of the truckers’ standstill, Guerra reinforced the importance of INSS compensation with PIS and COFINS, a bill that had a recent refusal of the federal government. “The sector has been working in the red for a long time, where in the first five months of the year we sell products with lower values compared to the same period last year,” he said.

To mediate the conversation between federal and state leaders, Secretary Odacir Klein became the “advocate” of the production chain, and praised the industry’s unity during the “tsunami,” as he referred to the truck drivers’ downtime. “The organization of the sector was fundamental. We worked responsibly as the Agriculture Secretariat, but the sector was very agile, “he said.

The document is composed of requests from the sector represented by Sindilat, the Union of the Industry of Meats and Derivatives in the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Sicadergs), the Gaucho Association of Poultry (Asgav), the Union of Manufacturers of Pigs ), the Federation of State Agriculture (Farsul) and the Federation of Agricultural Workers in Rio Grande do Sul (Fetag).
