Thermal stress can affect milk production

Attending the 7th Itinerant Milk Forum held in Teutônia (RS), experts highlighted the importance of avoiding the thermal stress of cows, which occurs more frequently at this time of year. The Dairy Industry Union (Sindilat) stresses that stress impacts the production and reproduction of dairy cows due to the reduction in dry matter intake.

For the veterinarian and researcher of Embrapa, Lígia Pegoraro, the rural worker should minimize the effects of heat with natural shade – in the case of grazing animals – and with ventilation – in the case of specimens in confinement. “Our concern is to make the cows have the best possible conditions to manifest all their physiological potential both in reproduction and in milk production,” says the expert.
