Agro prepares document with proposals for Presidential candidates

A state strategy structured by former agriculture minister Roberto Rodrigues and agribusiness entities has been presented to the presidential candidates as the main axis to transform the country into the world champion in food production. The document, presented this week [Wednesday, 19] at the headquarters of SRB, in São Paulo (SP), calls for “Government Plan for Agro Brasileiro”, proposes to position the sector in six different points: fundamentals, governance, market, innovation, sustainability and image.

The proposals, according to Rodrigues, include suggestions to be implemented over the next 12 years: “It is not a government plan for the next president, it is a long-term state strategy,” explained the former minister. Among the macroeconomic challenges are the tax and social security reforms, the elimination of all taxes levied on exports and agribusiness investments, and the enforcement of rules that prioritize the free operation of markets.

The plan also includes measures to improve and modernize agricultural policy, strategies to strengthen the presence of the sector in the foreign market, ensure sustainable practices of the means of production, legal security, implementation of technology in the field, investment in logistics, agricultural defense, education and agroenergy.

Still according to Rodrigues, the plan’s proposals will help Brazil expand its food production by up to 41% over the next ten years. According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), growth projections in the country will be key to meeting global demand by 2027. “There will be no peace where there is hunger, we will make Brazil the world champion of peace “said Rodrigues.

For the strategy to work, Rodrigues proposes to discuss food security with a broader view, including the participation of all sectors of the economy and involving urban society. “This is not a set of proposals for agriculture, it is an offer of agriculture for all Brazilians,” explained the former minister.
