Cooperativa Aurora announced that it will give collective vacations to 1,391 workers involved in the slaughtering of 33.5 million Abelardo Luz (SC). In a statement, the company said that the temporary stoppage will begin on June 30 this year and that it should not lay off any employees.
Aurora explained that the decision was based on the embargoes imposed by Europe and Russia for the purchase of Brazilian chicken meat. “The combination of these two episodes produces the effect of excessive supply and deterioration of prices,” says the note of the cooperative.
Another factor that motivated the decision is the scenario of high corn prices, which in turn is impacted by restricted grain supply in the domestic market. “This situation aggravates the difficulties of the sector and forces agroindustries to obtain maize abroad to maintain the almost 520 million birds housed throughout the country.”
Finally, the company stresses that it does not rule out the possibility of putting new plants under collective vacations and said that it expects the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to succeed in the technical and political defense of the animal protein.
