Brazilian grain harvest to reach 238.4 million tons

Brazilian grain production is expected to reach 238.4 million tons in the 2018/19 harvest. The number indicates a 4.6% on the result of the previous season, according to data released today (11), the third survey of the harvest by the National Supply Company (Conab).

According to the company, soybeans, corn, rice and cotton are expected to boost the harvest this season. Together, cultures represent 95% of total production. Another factor that is positively influencing the harvest is the climate, which is favorable in the country’s main agricultural areas.

In 2018/19, the survey indicates that the area planted with grains is expected to reach 62.5 million hectares, with an expected growth of 1.2% over last season, an increase of 756.3 thousand hectares. What explains this increase is the increase of area for cotton and soybean crops.

Main cultures

For this harvest, the soy production is expected to reach 120.1 million tonnes. Regarding the planted area of this crop, there is a growth trend of 1.8% in relation to the past.

In the case of maize, this should reach 91.1 million tonnes. Maize planted in the first crop shows a very specific production to meet internal demands, such as animal feed for confinement and in the areas close to poultry and pig farms, since the focus of the producer at this moment of planting is soy. The area planted with maize in this harvest reached 5.1 million hectares, representing an increase of 0.8% compared to the 2017/18 season.

For cotton, 2.4 million tons of feather are expected, representing an increase of 17.8% over the previous harvest. The performance of pen prices both domestically and abroad stimulated domestic producers to invest heavily in farming.
