The Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) wants to represent the farmers about the debate on the use of transgenics in Brazil. The entity filed a lawsuit seeking to be Assistant to the Union in the trial of a process on glyphosate tolerant transgenic seeds in the country.
According to the entity, a lawsuit filed by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) attempts to prohibit the use and marketing of the input, as well as the use of glyphosate, a agricultural pesticide widely used in agriculture. The lawsuit is being processed in the 9th Federal Court, in Brasilia.
“When it opposes the MPF’s action and asks to be a Union assistant in the process, the CNA alleges that the MPF’s lawsuit” is unreasonable and implies various legal assaults on the rights of rural producers and the Brazilian population as a whole, “says , in note, CNA.
The CNA also notes that MPF action, in addition to violating the principles of reasonableness and proportionality, “can directly affect international trade with the loss of relevant markets” in products such as soy, corn and cotton.
