Digital agriculture: Producer buys recommendations for decision-making

When it comes to digital farming solutions, what the rural producer is willing to buy are predictions, ie, knowledge generated from the collection and analysis of data, which can give him subsidies for better decision-making on planting, harvesting, purchase, sale, distribution, among many other operations intrinsic to the sector.

This was highlighted by experts in information technology and internet of things (Iot) applied to agribusiness, during a seminar held on Wednesday (19), at the Institute of Engineering, in São Paulo (SP).

According to Herlon Oliveira, CEO of agtech Agrusdata and vice president of the Brazilian Association of Internet of Things (Abinc), what actually pays the account of the services of digital agriculture is to anticipate scenarios / occurrences and to give recommendations related to climate, soil , pest infestation, application of inputs, control of water use, monitoring of silos, among other variables of the day to day of agriculture.

“The farmer does not buy technology, this is no gimmick, what he wants to know is what information technology will bring in return on investment for him,” says Herlon. “With the producer, we need to talk about numbers.”

The diagnosis of the manager of Abinc was corroborated by the researcher of Embrapa Instrumentação, Ednaldo Ferreira. According to him, the IT and Iot solutions that emerge in the field are the ones that will clearly show the rural producer in advance productivity gains, efficiency increase and cost reduction of the most diverse inputs, from the seed to the electric energy. “It is transforming data, this huge big data that is being assembled in the Brazilian agro in value for decision making.”

According to experts, IT is advancing so fast in agriculture that the standard will soon no longer collect and send data to the cloud. According to Herlon and Ednaldo, devices installed in the field, such as sensors, are equipped with artificial intelligence technology and will make decisions.
