Embryos of Brazilian cattle and pigs will be exported to India

India has officially imported bovine embryos and live pigs from Brazil. The information was confirmed by the health authority of that country.

India is the home country of Zebu cattle, but genetic improvement in Brazilian zebu cattle has resulted in gains in productivity and made it attractive to Indian farmers, according to the MPLS’s International Relations Secretariat.

The world’s largest dairy farmer, India is investing in the genetic improvement of its herd. Since 2016, Brazil has been exporting bovine semen to Indian producers. With the opening for export of embryos, the country increases the presence in Indian livestock.

India has approximately 10 million pigs, but only native breeds.
