Federal government program promises to expand internet access in the field

Gilberto Kassab, Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, said that the field will have broadband internet in all rural areas of the country. In a meeting on Tuesday (15) with the Parliamentary Front of Agriculture (FPA) through the federal “Internet for All” program, launched in March this year.

According to the minister, access will come from a satellite technology already tested and approved. “The same signal reached in the capitals of Brazil will go to the field. This digital transformation will change the lives of rural workers and residents, as well as bring social inclusion to these villages. Our satellite will bring connectivity to all corners of Brazil, “said Kassab.

Currently, there are around 20 million households not served by broadband in Brazil. During the meeting, the minister said that membership grows exponentially as the program progresses. According to him, up to now, 70% of Brazilian municipalities have already joined the program.

The expectation, according to the president of Eletrobras, Wilson Ferreira Júnior, is that as of June of this year, the first communities of the field are met with the program and that seven thousand schools already have the broadband internet installed until the end this year. “The project is being done in conjunction with municipalities and states that have mapped out all the communities and isolated areas in the country,” said the president.
