The number of jobs with the highest qualification in agribusiness grew in the first half of this year in comparison with the same period of 2017, according to researchers from Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics), Esalq / USP, based on data from PNAD Continuous , of IBGE. In the period, there was an increase of 7.2% of the employed population with a complete superior and a significant drop of 18.7% of employed persons without any level of education.
According to researchers from Cepea, this trend has been verified for some time and is related to several aspects, such as the elevation of technification in the field, not feasibility of small rural establishments in the highly competitive and technological environment of Brazilian agriculture, intensification and concentration of production and opportunities in urban settings in some regions. On the other hand, there was a growth of 4.4% in agribusiness informality (without a formal contract) between the first half of this year and the same period in 2017.
Population occupied in agribusiness
The total occupied population (OP) of agribusiness remained practically stable in the second quarter of this year, as indicated by researchers from Cepea. The participation of the agribusiness population in the total of Brazil, however, decreased. This is because, in this period of comparison, there was an increase of 0.72% in the number of total employed in the Country.
When considering the first half of this year compared to the same period of last year, disaggregating the agribusiness segments (inputs, primary, industry and services), there was a reduction in the number of occupations of primary activities, of 1.93%. In this case, the pressure came from livestock activities. In the agroindustry, there is stability in the total (slightly high of 0.35%), with a reduction in the number of people employed in the agricultural based industry, but growth in the livestock base.
