On Tuesday morning, the rapporteur for the bill to regulate phytosanitary pesticides (PL 6299/02), MP Luiz Nishimori (PR-PR), received representatives of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to discuss the proposal which intends to modernize the current legislation for these products. After the meeting, it was decided that a working group composed of technical representatives from the Ministries of Health (MS), Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MPLS) and the Environment (MMA), and Anvisa (National Surveillance Agency Sanitary) and Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources).
The objective is to propose improvements to the text of the proposal that is processed in Special Commission in the Chamber of Deputies. After two sittings, the Commission should resume work on Wednesday (16). For the rapporteur, Mr Luiz Nishimori, after two years of discussions in the National Congress about the proposal presented, the debate still has room and will be guaranteed with the participation of all the bodies involved and the society.
“What we want is to arrive at the best proposal for society. The law is out of print, almost 30 years ago, and the bodies involved agree with it. At that time, the country and Brazil underwent a lot of changes and the legislation did not follow this, bringing lethargy in the processes of registering new products safer and more technological to the country, “said Nishimori. The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic and coordinator of the Chamber of Environment and Cultural Heritage, Nívio de Freitas, and the head of the council, José Martins Arantes, participated in the meeting.
According to Nívio de Freitas, a discussion of the proposal is still necessary, with the participation of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and environmental and health agencies, to modernize legislation and guarantee the health of the population. “The change in the law needs to happen, as well as the speed in the process. Often, shortages of staff and resources hampers re-registration deadlines. However, we need to discuss the legislative proposal better, “said the deputy prosecutor at the meeting.
