Maggi announces Chinese mission to inspect refrigerators

In Beijing, during a meeting with China’s Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MPLS), Blairo Maggi, received confirmation that by the end of this month a technical mission with veterinary specialists will arrive in Brazil to inspect new refrigerators. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MPLS) presented a list of 84 new establishments to be surveyed by the Chinese. The Asian country is expected to release many of these refrigerators to export.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira also attended the meeting with the Chinese Minister of Commerce, where the difficulties in trade relations between the two countries were addressed. “Let’s accelerate talks through our embassy in Beijing,” Maggi said. Brazil currently has 102 lawsuits against China in the WTO (World Trade Organization), where some trade practices are contested. However, Minister Blairo Maggi said that many issues could be resolved, since the two countries have many things in common.

In the view of Minister Blairo Maggi, WTO cases demonstrate that protectionism in many countries is still very strong. For Maggi, this type of attitude (protectionism) on the part of the governments only disrupts the free trade between the countries. Blairo Maggi and the Core Delegation – formed by businessmen and entities representing Brazilian agribusiness – also met with directors of Cofco International, a Chinese grain trading company.
