President Michel Temer said on Tuesday (13) that the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU) should be closed “in a very short time”, informs the “Agência Brasil”. He said he has spoken to European leaders in recent days and has received confirmation that the bloc is willing to make the final negotiations to close the treaty definitively.
“A few days ago I received a phone call from the Prime Minister of Portugal and the Prime Minister of Spain. And Angela Merkel sent me a message saying that they are willing to make the last negotiations. I think in a very short time we are going to close the deal, which has been discussed for 19 years, “Temer said.
The president stressed, however, that there are still trade barriers to be solved, especially those related to the Brazilian automotive sector. Temer made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the plenary session of the Federation of Trade Associations of the State of São Paulo, in the city of São Paulo. He lectured for about 50 minutes on the achievements of his government to an audience consisting mainly of businessmen.
