Meteorologist warns of climatic conditions for 2018/19 crop

The climatic conditions for the next soybean crop (2018/19) in Mato Grosso will be different from the previous cycle, especially with respect to the time and the volume of rainfall expected for the beginning of the planting. The theme was the highlight of the “It’s Time to Plant 2018” event, held this week by the Support Foundation for Agricultural Research of Mato Grosso (MT Foundation).

According to Climatempo meteorologist Vitor Hassan, this difference in climate behavior for the next harvest will occur as we come from a La Niña harvest and are moving towards a possible season marked by El Niño, a climatic phenomenon that has very particular characteristics to the State of Mato Grosso.

“In general, the impact of warmer waters in the Central Pacific will cause a period of more irregular rains from October to November for all of Mato Grosso, from this period the rains will have greater regularity. During October and November, rainfall tends to be below the historical average for the entire state. From December to February, rainfall should exceed the average, especially in the western region of the state, while in the northern and northern regions, rainfall should remain within the historical average. Already in the producing regions of the Valley (east of the MT), the rains are expected to remain below average. With so much irregularity in the distribution of rainfall, the producer needs professional work directed to his farm, “explains Hassan.

Hassan also guides how the producer can avoid losses of productivity, with the irregularity of rains inside the window of planting. According to the specialist, the window of planting for this crop will have a very delicate climatic condition, and the development of the crop will depend on the good planning of each producer. “We can not control the weather, but we can make it a great ally in the field. Planning, precise and effective information, technical guidance and attention at the time of making decisions are tools that can guarantee a good planting and good harvest “, emphasizes Hassan.
