Milk: Price paid to producer up 3.8% in February

After eight months of decline, the price of milk paid to the producer rose 3.8% in February compared to the previous month, when R $ 1.024 / liter. The data are from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) and consider the quotations practiced in the “Net average Brazil” (prices without freight and taxes of BA, GO, MG, SP, PR, SC and RS).

According to Cepea, the The value of milk in the field was linked to the reduction in supply and the slight warming of demand. The capture of dairy and cooperatives sampled by Cepea declined in all the states surveyed. From December / 17 to January / 18, there was a fall of 2.17% in the Cepea Milk Capture Index (ICAP-L) in the “Brazil average”.

Despite the high prices received, the costs of production have risen since October / 17, due to the appreciation of corn. Prices of the 22% concentrate crude protein, main input of the dairy activity, registered a rise of 3.41% from October / 17 to January / 18, according to a Cepea survey.

Demand, in turn, shows signs of reaction. Even though the perception of the agents is still weak, the market has absorbed consecutive price increases. However, the maintenance of the appreciation movement, the reduction of the promotions and the smaller price range signaled a rewarming of the demand, favored by the greater economic stability.
