MPs want MP to facilitate renegotiation of farmers’ debts

The deputies representing the Northeast Region of the country asked the government to issue a provisional measure (MP) reestablishing points prohibited in the law that extended the renegotiation of debts of rural producers (Law 13.606 / 18).

According to the Agência Câmara de Notícias, the law was passed at the end of last year by Congress and had 24 vetoes, as sanctioned by the President of the Republic, Michel Temer, in January. The coordinator of the Northeastern bench, Deputy Júlio Cesar (PSD-PI) criticized especially the veto to the article that benefited rural producers in the region who are outside the Constitutional Funds of Northeastern and Northern Financing (article 3).

“This veto is giving a big problem to both farmers who already had this right in the previous law [13,340 / 16], as for banks, to decrease the liability due by 2011, which are those included in this law, “he said. According to Júlio Cesar, the veto to this article will impact 160 thousand contracts only in the bank of the Northeast. The deputy stressed that when there is a drought, production decreases, and therefore the ability of farmers to pay the debts.

If the government does not accept the bench’s request to reinstate this article by means of a provisional measure, the Northeast will mobilize to overturn the veto at the Congress session scheduled for the first week of April. The Northeast bench has 151 deputies in the House.
