Number of workers in agriculture is the highest in two years

The number of workers working in the agricultural sector (Occupied Population – OP) grew 1.78% in the third quarter of this year, totaling 18.41 million people, the highest percentage observed since the second quarter of 2016, according to data from the Center for Studies Advanced in Applied Economics (Cepea).

“When analyzing the variations in the number of employed persons registered among the agribusiness segments, during the second and third quarters, there was growth for the activities carried out in the primary segment, or” within the gateway “(3 , 12%), for agro-services (1,25%) and for the industry of inputs (0,36%). For processing agroindustry, the result was a slight fall of 0.21% in the number of personnel employed, “says Cepea.

Research shows that the number of workers has grown both in agriculture and livestock. In the agricultural area, coffee, sugar cane, orange, forest production and soybean crops stand out. In the livestock sector, all the analyzed activities cooperated for the growth of the population occupied in the segment, with emphasis on the bovinocultura.

Cepea also highlights a trend that has been observed in recent periods in the agribusiness labor market: improvement in the average level of qualification of the total employed population in the sector. However, the study highlights, at the same time, the increase in the level of informality of jobs.
