Paraná is the first Brazilian state to adopt soil program

The State of Paraná will be a pioneer in Brazil in adopting National Soil Survey and Interpretation Program – Pronasolos. The objective of the initiative is to adapt a research structure to increase the level of knowledge of Brazilian soils. Besides sustainable management of natural resources.

In Paraná, the program will act in the collection of material (soils and vegetation) for analysis, which will be started in the second semester. The goal is to generate information and create conditions for the reduction of the scale of the current maps, which allows to enlarge the visualization for better planning of the rural property.

Currently, soil and vegetation maps provide information, on average, on a scale of 1: 100 thousand. The intention is to reduce this scale to 1:25 thousand or 1:50 thousand. With this broader view, it will be possible to better plan rural property, including proposing more appropriate measures for soil conservation and management.

With the vegetation survey, it will also be possible to define the best plant species to be planted to form Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) and to plant riparian forests. “From more detailed information, the municipal nurseries will know what kind of vegetation change they should produce in their regions,” explained Debora Grimm, executive secretary of the Prosolos Paraná program and integrating Pronasolos.
