RenovaBio: MME announces note refuting Folha de S. Paulo report

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) informs that the information published by the Folha de São Paulo newspaper that the Decree regulating the RenovaBio program is raising the ethanol blend in gasoline to 40% is unfounded. There is no study or document related to RenovaBio, in any sphere of government, that considers the elevation of the ethanol mixture, of the current 27% in force.

The RenovaBio Law – formulated in public consultation and approved by the National Congress – foresees the establishment of national targets for the reduction of carbon emissions for the fuel matrix. It is a program that promotes increased efficiency in the production of biofuels (ethanol, biodiesel, biogas / biomethane and bio-kerosene) and does not provide for the definition of future production volumes for any biofuel – the market will continue to regulate this behavior.

The Decree, which regulates the Law that created the RenovaBio, will indicate the government agencies responsible for defining and enforcing the decarbonization targets.
