THE Saudi Arabia is expected to be a major importer of rice produced in Brazil. The country is one of the target markets for Brazilian Rice, an agreement between the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex-Brasil) and the Brazilian Association of the Rice Industry (Abiarroz).
“We continue to focus on Saudi Arabia, especially for the potential of parboiled rice in that market,” said the project manager Brazilian Rice, Gustavo Ludwig, in an interview with the Brazilian-Arab News Agency (ANBA). “We participated in Foodex last year and we plan to be there again this year,” he said.
According to data from Abiarroz, Saudi Arabia is still in the prospecting phase. The United States, Panama, Peru and the United Kingdom are other target countries of the agreement for the period 2018-2020, when an estimated R $ 2.1 million is invested in the project. Iraq has also been cited by Ludwig as a prominent market, along with Cuba, Senegal, Venezuela, Sierra Leone, Nicaragua, Bolivia and The Gambia.
