SC calls for customs improvements to boost exports

The governor of Santa Catarina, Eduardo Pinho Moreira, met with representatives of the agricultural sector at the Federal Revenue Office in Brasilia to request the modernization and expansion of the Dionísio Cerqueira municipality. The goal is is to give greater flow in the transportation of goods by the only dry port of the State, on the border between Santa Catarina and Argentina.

According to Moreira, there are goods that are stopped at the site due to lack of structure and professionals. This scenario also affects the flow of agricultural production in the state. According to the Secretary of Agriculture, Airton Spies, even the customs having recently been reformed lack professionals in the customs and health protection area.

“We need to improve the services of the border, because Santa Catarina has a proposal to bring the corn from Paraguay and Argentina, through the corn corridor, entering our state by Dionísio Cerqueira. With this corridor, the site would receive 150 more trucks every day, condition that the current structure does not carry, “he said.

Moreira explained that the corn that arrives at the State currently comes from the Midwest, that is, it covers a stretch of 2 thousand kilometers, which increases the product that is essential for the Santa Catarina agribusiness. “The corn from Paraguay, passing through Argentina and entering through Dionísio Cerqueira, diminishes the distance in a thousand kilometers, and that diminishes the price”, he compared.
