If the truck drivers’ strike that began last Monday (21), is extended until tomorrow (25), 208 factories that produce beef, pork and poultry throughout the country will have their activities paralyzed. This total represents 90% of Brazil’s animal protein production, warns the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporters (ABIEC) and the Brazilian Association of Animal Proteins (ABPA).
According to the two entities, since the beginning of the strike, 25 thousand tonnes of chicken and pork ceased to be exported, causing injury of US $ 60 million. For the beef, 1200 containers could not be shipped.
More than 85,000 employees of the animal protein industries and cooperatives of various sizes have suspended activities in the production units. In the same way, the various suppliers of inputs are also being impacted.
Still according to the entities, the smaller establishments – that maintains a cycle of delivery of products every two days – are already with the compromised supply. This difficulty can hit major centers in the coming days.
