The number of startups in agribusiness grows, research says

The second edition of the AgTech Startups Brazil Census, a survey carried out in partnership by AgTech Garage and the School of Agronomy Luiz de Queiróz, University of São Paulo (Esalq / USP), will increase more than 150% in less than two years in the number of startups focused on agribusiness.

While the 2016 mapping pointed to the existence of 75 of these companies in Brazil, only the startups that participate in the Agtech Garage network already amount to almost 200. According to the study’s directors, there is no doubt that the final number to be announced in June will still be bigger.

“We are going to show the world the maturity and relevance of the agro-ecosystem of Brazilian agri-environment,” says the director of AgTech Garage, José Tomé. Data collection for the second edition of the Census began in April through online completed questionnaires , which will be evaluated and tabulated in May. The final numbers of the mapping, which has national coverage, will be released in June.

The base already mapped to the first edition of the Census will be the starting point, according to the Professor of the Department of Genetics of Esalq / USP and one of the coordinators of the survey, Mateus Mondin. “The first Census opened the eyes of entrepreneurs, investors, government and agencies to the world. The data were presented in several events by Brazil and the world, which caused many entities to organize themselves to develop ways of encouraging the agtech entrepreneur. “
