US Department of Justice approves purchase of Monsanto by Bayer

The United States Department of Justice has approved Bayer’s acquisition of Monsanto – in a deal worth more than $ 60 billion – after companies pledged to sell assets to secure approval by US antitrust agencies, it said on Monday (09) the “The Wall Street Journal.”

The US ruling comes shortly after the approval of the deal by European authorities in a decision that also required the sale of assets.

In Brazil, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) approved the deal in early February, conditioning the divestment of all assets currently held by Bayer related to the soybean and cotton seeds business, as well as to the non-selective herbicides based on glufosinate ammonium. This divestment will occur through the sale of the seeds and herbicides businesses to BASF for the approximate value of € 5.9 billion.
